Child Safety from Fire and Water

Generally, parents who wish to know things about child safety from fire and water do not really need to go over to the library or surf the internet to gather facts. There are really no definite rules and guidelines on child safety from fire and water. Basically, they are just the logical stuff that you need to do in order to keep your children safe from these leading killers.

Child safety from fire and water means formulating a plan. Make sure your home is equipped with smoke alarms. Create a fire escape plan and educate the whole family about it. Children are generally very curious. Beat them to it and explain to them how matches and lighters work and tell them about the possible hazards they can bring. Make sure they understand that these things are not toys and ensure that they are kept in places that are not accessible to the children.

Child safety from fire and water does not really mean fires are always initiated by the children. Parents are more capable of instigating a fire. The kitchen is the best venue for it. Oil left on high heat can create flames. Make sure kids are far from the kitchen when you are cooking. If their clothes caught fire, make them drop and roll to kill the fire. In case there is heavy smoke, wrap them in a wet blanket and let them crawl low under the smoke. And foremost, do not panic. You will be able to protect your child more if you’re acting in the best sense.

The absence of a pool in your house does not assure you that your child is safe from drowning. Some children can drown in a barrel of water or even in the toilet bowl. We may not be able to figure out what they were planning on doing in the toilet that made their heads end up inside the bowl, but we can only do so much as to prevent it from happening to our kids.

Child safety from fire and water is a lifelong process. These two highly-diverse leading causes of deaths in children entail a lot of responsibility for parents. We may think that we have fully baby-proofed our houses for any possible dangers to lurk around. But, no house is adequately proofed enough, and no child is entirely safe.

Thus, child safety from fire and water does not only depend on the safety gadgets that you install inside the house, or the unsafe ones that you decided to throw out. It is important to continually educate your child on the probable harm that could happen if someone in the family is not cautious.
